Limuru’s dairy sector received a major boost with the commissioning of a Sh172 million ultra-modern UHT milk processing plant at Limuru Milk Processors on May 22, 2025. The new facility can process over 32,000 litres of milk daily into long-life UHT products and yoghurt, revitalizing the local dairy industry and providing a stable market for farmers across Kiambu County.

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, representing President William Ruto, officiated the ceremony and praised the project as a model example of the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda in action.

“This plant is more than just a machine—it’s a lifeline for thousands of farmers across Limuru and its neighbouring constituencies,” said Limuru MP Eng. Kiragu Chege. “It’s proof that strategic investment in agribusiness can drive rural development and economic empowerment.”

The plant is expected to benefit dairy farmers from Lari, Kabete, Kikuyu, Kiambaa, Githunguri, Gatundu South, Gatundu North, Thika Town, and Juja, offering consistent demand for their produce and helping stabilize incomes.

The launch brought together MPs, Kiambu MCAs, the PS for Cooperatives, and other leaders, underscoring the broad support for value addition and local manufacturing. Stakeholders hailed the project as a key step in modernizing agriculture, increasing earnings, and expanding job opportunities along the dairy value chain.
