The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) today marked two major milestones: the commissioning of seven new vehicles and the opening of its 8th biennial Scientific Conference.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale presided over the flag-off ceremony, praising KMTC’s role in strengthening community-based training. The new double-cabin vehicles will be deployed to support student placements in rural health facilities across the country.
“These vehicles will be crucial in connecting our students with rural health facilities, ensuring they gain vital hands-on experience,” said KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch. KMTC currently operates in 45 counties and is working toward nationwide coverage.
Coinciding with the launch, the 8th KMTC Scientific Conference opened under the theme “Advancing Health Equity in a Rapidly Changing Environment.” The event has drawn researchers and health professionals from Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Hungary, Canada, and the U.S.
“With 36 research papers and 11 poster presentations, this conference affirms our commitment to evidence-based healthcare,” said Dr. Oluoch.
Cabinet Secretary Duale underscored the college’s importance in Kenya’s health sector: “KMTC trains 85% of the country’s middle-level health workforce. Their education must be rigorous, relevant, and forward-looking.”
The conference will run for three days and is expected to foster regional collaboration, innovation, and policy dialogue on health equity.
