Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital now a beacon of hope for Eastlands residents

Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital has undergone massive transformation in the recent years to rise against perennial challenges that had persistently hindered service delivery.
Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Martin Wafula Wekesa,Mama Lucy now prides itself as one of best digitally run public health facilities after Kenyatta National Hospital.
Last month, officials from the Ministry of Health( MoH) identified the facility as the best avenue to kick-start the distribution of computers and tablets to health centres across the country.
The government used the facility as the appropriate ground to launch the release of 11,780 computers and tablets aimed at enhancing the roll-out of Taifa Care and Universal Health Coverage.
This was as a result of the Intergovernmental Participatory Agreement with County Governments.
Mama Lucy system’s are now customised with a patient’s portal which means all critical information related to a patient can be stored for future references.
The Hospital has also made significant upgrades aimed at enhancing patient care and service delivery.
Among the key advancements is the establishment of six Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds and eight Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) beds, providing critical care for newborns and young children.
The hospital has a 14-bed renal unit to cater to the growing number of patients requiring dialysis services.
The hospital is now dealing with increased demand for it’s services, and according to Martin, the progress being made will make it possible.
Other major improvements include six modern operating theaters to enhance surgical services, an expanded Accident and Emergency Unit for better handling of critical cases, and a Smart Blood Bank to ensure life-saving transfusions are readily available.
