Korogocho Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Absalom Odhiambo, also known as Matach, has strongly condemned wealthy businessmen he accuses of attempting to unlawfully seize public land in Baba Dogo.

The land, historically used for talent development and as a playground since the early 1900s, has become the center of a heated dispute.

The MCA’s denunciation follows a recent incident where businessmen of Indian origin, reportedly escorted by police, disrupted an ongoing football match at the grounds. According to witnesses, the individuals allegedly fired shots and deployed tear gas to force players to vacate and close the area.

“I’m calling on Governor Johnson Sakaja and President William Ruto to intervene in this matter immediately,” Matach told journalists on Friday at his ward office. “The Governor is aware of this situation, as we discussed it recently, but it is now getting out of hand.”

This isn’t the first time the community has rallied against these alleged land-grabbing attempts. Residents of Baba Dogo previously demonstrated in March of this year to protest the tycoons’ intentions to take over their communal land.
