Zamzam Mohamed Secures Kshs. 415B for Counties in Revenue Deal Breakthrough

Nairobi, June 17, 2025 — Counties are set to receive Kshs. 415 billion for the 2025/2026 financial year after a successful mediation led by the Parliamentary Mediation Committee, Mombasa Woman Representative Zamzam Mohamed has announced.
The deal marks a Kshs. 10 billion boost from the National Treasury’s initial offer and a significant rise from last year’s Kshs. 387.4 billion allocation.
“This isn’t just about numbers—it’s about services, jobs, and dignity at the grassroots,” said Zamzam. “This funding will directly improve healthcare, education, infrastructure, and local economies.”
The agreement now heads to the National Assembly and Senate for final approval. Once passed, it will set the stage for timely disbursement of funds to county governments.
Zamzam praised the Mediation Committee for its commitment and compromise, framing the outcome as a win for devolution and regional equity. She called on lawmakers to fast-track the Bill to avoid service delivery delays.
With this increase, counties are poised to better serve their populations—sending a clear signal that devolution remains central to Kenya’s development agenda.
