Government Asked to Obey Court Orders on PBO Act Implementation

The Government has been asked to obey the law and court orders. Civil Society Reference Group president David Caleb Otieno says the Government should not in anyway coerce and subject existing organizations into afresh registration.
According to Otieno the Court has pronounced itself clearly declaring several section of Public Benefit Organization Act 2013 unconstitutional.
“We were in Court last week and the Court said very well that the formation of Public Benefit Organization Authority is unconstitutional. A fresh registration of PBOs was also declared inconsistent with the law so the government should observe that. “he told the media.
Civil Society Reference Group CSRG has asked Non Governmental Organization and civil societies to stay calm as the CSRG pursues the matter in corridors of justice.
“We want the NGOs and any other pressure groups to stay calm as we fight injustice brought by this Act. We are also ready to engage as was directed with the Government through a stakeholder forum.” He added.
