Nairobi, Kenya – Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Muthoni Wahome has launched the Affordable Housing Internship Programme, marking a major milestone in the government’s effort to merge job creation with national development.

Unveiled at State House Nairobi, the programme will offer 4,000 internships to young professionals — including architects, engineers, surveyors, and construction managers — to gain hands-on experience through placements within the Affordable Housing Programme.

“This initiative is not just about employment. It’s about exposing our youth to real, practical experience while advancing the country’s housing agenda,” said CS Wahome.

The programme is part of Kenya’s broader Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), designed to bridge the gap between academic training and industry needs while empowering youth to take part in nation-building.

CS Wahome praised President William Ruto’s vision for a more inclusive and equitable Kenya. “The vision is irreversible. The mission continues,” she declared. “This programme stands for dignity, opportunity, and inclusion — creating jobs and communities that are functional, affordable, and future-ready.”

Senior officials from the Ministry of Lands, State Department for Housing, and industry leaders joined young graduates at the event, signaling cross-sector support for the initiative.

As Kenya’s Affordable Housing Programme continues to grow, the internship drive positions youth not just as beneficiaries but as key players in building a stronger, more resilient nation.
