Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) Chairman Hon. Adan H. Ali has fired back at Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro over claims that the government used a Ksh 7 fuel levy as collateral for a Ksh 175 billion loan—allegedly causing a spike in fuel prices.

In a stinging rebuttal, Hon. Ali accused Nyoro of political dishonesty and hypocrisy, reminding Kenyans that Nyoro, as former Chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in 2023, was directly involved in crafting the very fiscal policies he now criticizes.

“It is disingenuous for Hon. Nyoro to accuse the government of fueling price hikes when he played a central role in the borrowing strategies he now faults,” said Ali. “His selective amnesia is politically expedient and misleading.”

Hon. Ali warned that such rhetoric erodes public trust and shifts focus away from meaningful policy discussion. He emphasized that the current fuel prices are primarily driven by global oil markets and tax measures enacted through proper legislative channels.

“This kind of political posturing does not serve Kenyans—it insults their intelligence and undermines institutions,” Ali said, urging leaders to maintain integrity and consistency in their public statements.

The heated exchange comes amid rising public frustration over high fuel costs, which have sparked national debate and growing political tension.

Ali concluded by reaffirming EPRA’s commitment to transparency and consumer protection, urging leaders to engage in fact-based discussions that offer real solutions to economic challenges.
