KEBS Makes History as Esther Ngari Secures Global Accreditation for Kenya’s Certification Standards

In a landmark achievement for Kenya’s industrial sector, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has secured global accreditation for its Product Certification Scheme, placing the country’s quality assurance systems on the world map.
Under the leadership of Managing Director Esther Ngari, KEBS has been accredited to ISO/IEC 17065:2012—a prestigious international standard for certifying products, services, and processes. The accreditation was officially granted by the Kenya National Accreditation Service (KENAS) through its CEO, Dr. Walter Ongeti.
This milestone now positions KEBS among globally recognized conformity assessment bodies, granting automatic international recognition for its certification marks.
“This is not just a win for KEBS, but a major boost for Kenyan manufacturers, exporters, and consumers. It opens doors to global markets while reinforcing our commitment to consumer protection,” said Ngari.
With this accreditation:
- Kenyan products certified by KEBS can now access regional and international markets more easily.
- Consumers can trust the safety and quality of certified goods.
- Local labs will be strengthened to meet global testing standards.
Ngari pledged continued collaboration with industries, regulators, and testing bodies to scale the impact of this success and advance Kenya’s position as a regional leader in standards.
This global stamp of approval is set to turbocharge Kenya’s trade prospects, attract investment, and reinforce KEBS’s role as a trusted guardian of quality in an increasingly competitive global market.
