Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi has issued a strong appeal to political leaders from Western Kenya to put aside their differences and forge a united front ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an economic empowerment event in Kanduyi, Bungoma County on Saturday, Elachi warned that ongoing political divisions risk isolating the region from the national development agenda and undermining its political potential.

“There is an urgent need to end the political confusion in Western Kenya if we are to be part of the country’s future,” she said.

Elachi pointed to growing tensions between Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, urging both to close ranks and collaborate with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

She further challenged Wetang’ula and Mudavadi to offer firm and unifying leadership, warning that a lack of clarity was eroding the community’s influence.

“Papa wa Roma (Wetang’ula), Musalia, Oparanya, Natembeya, Eugene — unite! If you love Western, stop taking us around in circles. Converge and speak with one voice,” Elachi implored.

She underscored that the Luhya community holds considerable political weight, but that power remains untapped due to internal divisions and disjointed strategies.

With political maturity and coordination, Elachi believes Western Kenya could deliver a decisive voter turnout and emerge as a central force in shaping Kenya’s national political landscape.

She also emphasized the importance of building a cohesive voting bloc in the region, noting that unity would significantly enhance the community’s bargaining power and ensure its voice is heard in national policy decisions.

Her remarks come amid a period of intensified political activity in Western Kenya, following recent comments from top government figures signaling support for Speaker Wetang’ula’s future political prospects.

Speaking at the same event, President William Ruto’s advisor Farouk Kibet praised Wetang’ula’s leadership and hinted at a broader role in national leadership.

“After President William Ruto, God willing, the future of Kenya lies here in Bungoma. Papa wa Roma is in rehearsal right now. We want him to carry the Kenyan flag one day,” Kibet said.

Elachi’s appeal reflects early signs of realignment within the region’s political class as the race to 2027 begins to take shape.

Governor Natembeya and former CS Wamalwa have both ramped up their political activities, with Natembeya presenting himself as a reformist voice and Wamalwa maintaining his base through the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).

As momentum builds, Elachi believes that only unity, strategic leadership, and a shared vision can ensure the region’s rightful place in Kenya’s political future.
