Echo Network Africa Unleashes Girls Excel Initiative to Break Barriers and Build Future Women Leaders

By John Kariuki
In a landmark move to champion gender equality and empower Africa’s next generation of women leaders, Echo Network Africa Foundation (ENAF) has unveiled the Girls Excel Initiative — a bold campaign targeting systemic challenges that continue to hold girls back.
Launched in Nairobi, the initiative aims to boost girls’ access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education while confronting harmful cultural practices such as FGM, child marriage, and period poverty.
“Life is mathematical, and so is leadership,” declared ENAF CEO Dr. Jennifer Riria, underscoring the importance of equipping girls with critical thinking skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving, tech-driven world.
More than just a STEM push, the program is a multi-pronged effort to rewrite the narrative for African girls by promoting mentorship, safe learning spaces, and women-led innovation. It’s designed to shatter long-standing barriers that have sidelined girls from leadership roles and national development.
Stakeholders at the launch pledged unwavering support to accelerate the initiative’s vision — creating equal opportunities for every girl to learn, lead, and inspire.
Through advocacy, community outreach, and policy engagement, ENAF’s Girls Excel Initiative signals a powerful shift: that educating and empowering girls is not just a social good, but a national imperative.
With this initiative, ENAF isn’t just helping girls catch up — it’s preparing them to lead.
