PS Mang’eni Rallies Strategic Partnerships to Supercharge Kenya’s MSME Growth

By John Kariuki
Principal Secretary for MSME Development, Susan Auma Mang’eni, has launched a bold push to elevate Kenya’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to global standards, targeting a contribution of 60% to the GDP, up from the current 40%.
Hosting a high-level delegation from the SNV Kenya IYBA SEED Project, led by Ms. Nduta Ndirangu, Mang’eni championed the creation of a National MSME Ecosystem Coordination Framework — a blueprint to streamline support, policy, and engagement across counties and sectors.
“This is more than just economic growth. It’s about building an inclusive ecosystem where every entrepreneur thrives,” said Mang’eni, emphasizing that strategic partnerships are the key to unlocking MSME potential.
The talks, which included Dr. David Ojwang (SNV Agrifood Sector Lead) and Mohammed Doyo (Secretary MSME), focused on improving business environments, technical assistance, and gender and social inclusion — ensuring women, youth, and marginalized groups get a fair shot at success.
The collaboration aims to empower MSMEs through targeted support, policy harmonization, and access to resources — positioning the sector as a cornerstone of national transformation.
With MSMEs employing over 15 million Kenyans, the government’s renewed focus could be a game-changer in reducing unemployment and expanding the country’s economic base.
Mang’eni’s message was clear: “Kenya’s economic future lies in the hands of its small businesses — and we’re here to make sure they succeed.”
