Governor Nathif Jama, while commissioning the facility, hailed it as a generational investment in public service. “This is a permanent project that will serve the people of Garissa for generations. I urge our MCAs to utilise it fully in their legislative duties,” he said.

The new structure replaces the old assembly building that was repeatedly damaged by fire, forcing Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to operate under substandard and temporary conditions for months.

The state-of-the-art building now houses the main chambers, the offices of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and key committee chairpersons, including the County Assembly Public Service Board Chairperson.

Speaker Abdi Gure described the unveiling as a “restoration of dignity” to the assembly. “After months of operating in cramped and unsuitable spaces, we now have a modern complex with dedicated facilities that reflect the constitutional role of this institution,” he stated.

The development is expected to boost legislative efficiency, provide a conducive working environment, and elevate the image of the assembly in line with devolution goals.

Residents and leaders have praised the new chambers as a symbol of resilience and progress, turning the page on past disruptions and reaffirming Garissa’s commitment to strong, accountable governance.
