Fresh Faces Join Kakamega Assembly as Two New ODM MCAs Take Oath

Kakamega, Kenya – The Kakamega County Assembly on Tuesday welcomed two newly nominated Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), Hon. Lucy Kendi Khayadi and Hon. Linet Wanga Imbayi, who officially took the Oath of Office in a ceremony presided over by Speaker Hon. James Namatsi.
The brief swearing-in session took place during the afternoon plenary sitting, marking a significant step in filling two long-standing vacancies left by the late Hon. Godlier Omondi (who passed away in November 2023) and Hon. Welimo (who died in October 2022).
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) gazetted the two names last month, following their nomination by the ODM party under the gender top-up category on the marginalized list.
In his congratulatory message, Speaker Namatsi emphasized that the two have been entrusted with full legislative powers and responsibilities, just like any other elected MCA. He added that an extensive orientation and induction program has been prepared to help the new members understand their legislative roles, responsibilities, and the general operations of the Assembly.
The addition of Hon. Khayadi and Hon. Imbayi now brings new energy and representation to the Assembly as it continues to pursue its legislative and oversight mandate.
