Kenyan Designers Shine at Africa Fashion Week London Under British Council Programme

NAIROBI – Three Kenyan fashion brands — Sevaria, Epica Jewellery, and Kisero Nairobi — showcased their creations at Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) 2025, gaining international exposure and access to new markets through the British Council’s Creative DNA programme.
The event, held at Space House, London, brought together emerging designers from Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, and Zimbabwe. Creative DNA, active since 2020, has supported over 200 African fashion entrepreneurs with a focus on sustainable enterprise, market access, and global networking.
The Kenyan cohort’s participation formed part of the UK/Kenya Season 2025, a bilateral cultural programme celebrating arts, culture, and education between the two nations. British Council Kenya Country Director Tom Porter said the collaboration “creates meaningful opportunities for Kenyan talent to engage globally, gain new perspectives, and build lasting networks.”
Designers also took part in UK retail and manufacturing tours, exploring ethical production, sustainability, and international fashion standards. Sevaria draws inspiration from Maasai and Akorino heritage, Kisero Nairobi produces handcrafted luxury leather goods, and Epica Jewellery creates wearable art celebrating African traditions.
The British Council pavilion highlighted fashion’s future, including collaborations with Ethiopia’s Guzo Technologies on AI-driven storytelling and virtual reality runways. AFWL founder Queen Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi said the partnership marks “a bold step forward in elevating African fashion on the global stage.”
Africa’s fashion industry is projected to generate over $15 billion in revenue by 2025, with programmes like Creative DNA seen as key to unlocking that potential.
