Analysts Warn of Internal Tensions in Tim Wanyonyi’s Campaign

Hon. Tim Wanyonyi’s bid for Bungoma governor is facing turbulence amid claims of internal wrangles and alleged sabotage linked to Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) operative Noela Musundi.
Musundi, originally from Namanjala in Trans Nzoia County, currently runs a communications consultancy that manages affairs in Westlands Constituency, Nairobi. However, her growing visibility in Bungoma politics has stirred unease within Wanyonyi’s campaign team.
Campaign insiders allege that Musundi has leaned on grassroots networks established during former governor Wycliffe Wangamati’s tenure. Some of these operatives, said to remain loyal to Wangamati, are accused of causing disarray in coordination and leaking insider information.
This is not the first time Musundi’s name has surfaced in Bungoma’s political scene.
She was previously linked to divisions in Governor Ken Lusaka’s first administration (2013–2017), a period marked by internal tensions that weakened cohesion. At the time, her strained relationship with local media saw her redeployed to Nairobi.
Concerns have also been raised over Musundi’s choice of a close ally to head media coordination in Bungoma. The individual, affiliated with a little-known local TV station, is said to have struggled to boost campaign visibility, fueling doubts about the effectiveness of the current communication strategy.
Still, Wanyonyi retains broad goodwill among Bungoma residents. Political analysts, however, caution that unresolved internal frictions could undermine his momentum.
“Tim has the people on his side, but campaigns can collapse from within if coordination is compromised,” a political observer familiar with Bungoma politics noted.
