All is not well in Kenya Kwanza political alliance as some sober politicians have accused
hardliners around President William Ruto of hatching an intricate scheme to have the new
Director General (DG) – National Intelligence Service (NIS) Noordin Haji impeached for his
steadfast approach to matters security and more so current political crisis characterized by street
demonstrations across the country.
Credible sources in the corridors of power have indicated that a section of diehard politicians
and members of the executive mostly from the Central Kenya have ring-fenced President Ruto
and are fighting day and night against anyone trying to give the president contrary information
and views about the ongoing political stalemate in the country.
The source further says the group has no regard for the country welfare nor presidency ratings at
the moment. “All they want is to safeguard their personal and selfish interests,” adds the
informant. Most members of this cartel have a dubious past with myriad of graft cases and have
managed to find their way to the center of power thus holding the head of State at ransom.
According to sources, the group comprising of CS Trade, Moses Kuria, Douglas Kanja (DIG
NPS), Mary Wambui Mungai (Communications Authority Board Chair), Antony Mwaura – KRA
board chairman and Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwa have consolidated their power around the
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Some like CS Kuria and MP Ichungwa have been breathing fire at any given opportunity. For
fear of a possible dialogue between the President and opposition lead by Raila Odinga the team
is by all means ensuring the President does not get a true picture and ability to look at things
objectively.
It is further alleged the team working with Gachagua DP Gachagua had their sponsored
candidate for DG-NIS position which failed and are using the same syndicate to taint and portray
Hajji as a sympathizerof opposition in the country
A few months ago before his appointment, Noordin Hajji and NIS are rumoured and reported to
have worked behind the scenes to birth the aborted bipartisan talks between Azimio and KK
alliances. The talks were however short-lived. Thanks to the hardline stand by a section of
members of the two alliances.
The Mt Kenya mafia had all along demanded to have their confidant be appointed to key
positions including DG-NIS. This was after they missed on Kenya Defense Force, National
Police Services and DCI top offices.
The group, which largely comprise of those who individuals who faced craft and other economic
crimes related cases still believe they can shield the President from trusting Haji and his
leadership at NIS. The current political situation has provided the group opportunity to paint
Hajji as incapable and one who has a divided loyalty.
Several leaders have proposed for dialogue between President William Ruto and Azimio La
Umoja One leader Raila Odinga to put an end to the violence witnessed in parts of the country.
Sources indicate that NIS as well as majority of peace loving Kenyans are of the view that a
meeting between the two leaders would offer a way forward on issues affecting Kenyans and
prevent loss of life and destruction of property during demonstrations.
Azimio coalition has planned intense anti-government protests to run for three consecutive days
beginning Wednesday, even as the government drew a line in the sand, vowing to thwart any
such attempts.
Both Raila and Ruto have stood their grounds, with the former insisting the protests are within
Kenya constitutional rights, while the head of State has warned that his administration will not
condone such demonstrations, which he noted, have been a recipe for chaos.
KK leaders have generally rejected a truce between President Ruto and Azimio leader Raila
Odinga, arguing the previous handshake in 2018 ruined the former ruling party Jubilee and the
economy.
During a meeting at State House, Nairobi on Saturday, President Ruto firmly endorsed the
resolution, adding that the handshake between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila
personally affected him.
“There will be no handshake. I am one person who knows how costly the handshake was to
Kenya and me personally. It can’t happen. The people made a decision on August 9, sending us
to the government and our competitors to the opposition,” Ruto told the meeting.
To counter Azimio, the president asked the MPs to embark on a grassroots drive to “protect their
constituents’ lives and property.” The legislators are set to counter protests planned for
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week, so as not to allow Raila “to destroy Kenya”
