Allegations of intimidation and misappropriation of public funds have emerged involving Alex Kipkoech Langat, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) representing Mosop Ward in Nakuru County.
The controversy centers around the allocation and utilization of a staggering 2.1 million Kenyan Shillings designated for the maintenance of the Salgaa drainage system.
Local residents, already perplexed by the glaring disparities between the allocated funds and the quality of work executed, have now been further unnerved by a disturbing video that recently surfaced online.
They maintain that what should have been a straightforward project has become a cesspool of suspicion, raising concerns about accountability and financial transparency.
In the video, Langat is heard making explicit threats against his critics, vowing to resort to physical violence to silence any opposition directed at him.
“This is an alarming development that strikes at the heart of our democratic principles and ethical governance,” said John Kamau, a concerned resident of Mosop Ward. “Our MCA’s duty is to serve the community and uphold our interests, not to intimidate or threaten those who question his actions.”
He noted that the questions surrounding the Salgaa drainage project have evolved into a clash between the electorate’s right to transparency and the MCA’s alleged attempts to suppress dissent.
Mr. Kamau said that locals are calling for an investigation by independent and unbiased investigative agencies to unearth the truth behind both the misuse of funds and the intimidation tactics employed by the members of the County assembly.
“The essence of democracy lies in the protection of citizens’ voices and interests,” declared Jane Wanjiku, a vocal member of the community. “We deserve answers about the allocation of funds and an explanation for the threats that have left us feeling vulnerable and marginalized.”
