County Executive for Business and Hustler Opportunities, Maureen Njeri today attended the 6th Annual Kenya Manufacturing Summit Expo 2023 organized by Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) at the KICC.
The expo dubbed “The Changamka Kenya Shopping Festival 2023” provides an opportunity to showcase the high quality of locally manufacturing products while demonstrating the ingenuity of local industries in driving innovation.
Speaking at the Expo, Ms. Maureen said, “Nairobi is the heart of Kenyas’ economy. This is where much of our country’s economic action is. We are the home of a number of international organizations, talented, educated and innovative people all open to the world and ready to do productive work. “
She stated that with a growing population of 2% a year and land remaining as is, manufacturing jobs were essential and that there was need for higher standards of skill and productivity to capture higher value work and its rewards.
“Every year, KAM brings together players from various industries to showcase progress, products, and opportunities and not just in the manufacturing sector,” she said.
Ms. Maureen assured the stakeholders present of H.E the Governor’s commitment to ensuring that Single Business Permit will roll out as promised.
“A few days ago, H.E., the Governor signed the County Finance Act, and it contains a wealth of provisions. It will be good to note that we are bringing clarity on charges, fees and all financial interaction with the County Government. “,Cec Njeri stated.
She further shared that the county consults regularly with all business leaders in the city and intends to go a step further by setting up formal group consultations on Nairobis’ manufacturing future.
“Nairobi has everything we need to become the continent’s high value manufacturing hub. We are currently in the designs and planning stages of development of a one of a kind, Centre of excellence County Industrial and Aggregation Parks (CAIPs) in Nairobi County which will support our local manufacturing businesses in the wood and metal furniture space in ensuring they are able to increase their production, produce quality products which are standardized and are able to compete with the higher level markets. Our efforts also include reviving the Kariakor common user facility for optimal uptake by local leather artisans. This will result to job creation, increase in income and improved access to markets of our locally manufactured goods.”,Njeri added.
Nairobi city county government has approximately 20no. MSMEs who are currently showcasing their products during this shopping festival inorder to drive our support in creating market linkages for these groups.
The expo will run from the 31st October, 2023 to 4th November at KICC with a summit that will unpack various topical policy issues that aim at spurring growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
