The 865 Commissioners of the 24th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), convened at St Andrewβs Church, Nairobi, guided by the theme “we will serve the Lordβ have called the government to reform the education system.
Led by the secretary general Rev. Robert Waihenya, they noted the gaps in infrastructure, staff and junior secondary school placement while the delay in the release of capitation is affecting the quality of education.
“We urge the government to swiftly resolve these issues. The disjointed bursary funds be consolidated under the Ministry of Education and be administered fairly,” Rev Thegu Mutahi moderator of the 24th General Assembly told the press on Friday.
They pledged full support to the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum.
They also called for funding of university education to be aligned to serve all Kenyan students whether in private or public institutions.
“Additionally, we encourage that an ideal and advanced character formation and life skills programme be adopted for all Kenyan youths to equip them for successful lifestyles,” Rev Mutahi concluded.
