Mandera South MP, Abdul Haro Korea, participated in the launch of the 2024 Secondary School Survey Report organized by the USAWA Agenda Organization.
The event took place at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi, focusing on the theme, “Building Evidence for Just School Systems to Power Just & Sustainable Societies.”
The report’s findings shed light on the progress and challenges in achieving the global Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which aims to “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” Additionally, the report aligns with Kenya’s Vision 2030, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive and just secondary education system.
The survey identified several gaps in the provision of secondary education in Kenya that require immediate attention. These findings underscore the urgent need for stakeholders in the education sector to reflect on the current state of secondary education in the country.
MP Abdul Haro Korea emphasized the importance of addressing these gaps to make meaningful progress towards realizing both SDG 4 and Kenya’s Vision 2030. He highlighted that every child in Kenya has a constitutional right to quality secondary education, and it is crucial to ensure that this right is upheld.
“The findings of this survey offer all actors in the education sector an opportunity to reflect on the strides, challenges, and gaps in the provision of a just secondary education,” said MP Abdul Haro Korea. “It is our collective responsibility to work towards creating a just, equitable, and sustainable school system that empowers our youth and contributes to Kenya’s overall development.”
