The Kenya School of Government (KSG) marked a significant milestone with the launch of its Strategic Plan 2023-2027, signaling a new era in public service capacity development. Themed “A New Dawn of Capacity Development in the Public Service,” this Strategic Plan aligns with Kenya’s development policy, the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda, and international frameworks such as the SDGs, Africa Agenda 2063, and the East Africa Community Vision 2050.

At the launch, KSG’s Acting Director General, Prof. Nura Mohamed, highlighted the Plan’s aim to rebrand the institution through innovative programs and activities. These initiatives are designed to enhance KSG’s profile and impact within Kenya’s educational landscape and beyond.

One of the Strategic Plan’s key highlights is the collaboration with East African partners to offer sustainable development courses. This regional approach underscores KSG’s commitment to fostering cross-border cooperation and addressing shared challenges through capacity development.

The Strategic Plan shifts the focus from generic curriculum development to more targeted ones, emphasizing the implementation of “fit-for-purpose” courses tailored to meet specific needs and challenges faced by public service sectors across the country and Africa.

Outlined in the Plan are several strategic pillars aimed at driving the institution forward:

  1. Development and Implementation of “Fit-for-Purpose” Courses: Customizing training to address specific public service challenges.
  2. Enhancement of Public Service Course Delivery: Improving the effectiveness and reach of training programs.
  3. Creation of Globally Competitive Educational Programs: Elevating the standards of KSG’s educational offerings to meet global benchmarks.
  4. Cultivation of a High-Performance Culture: Promoting excellence and efficiency within the public service.
  5. Advancement of Government Paradigms: Encouraging innovative governance practices.
  6. Implementation of Open Government Partnerships: Fostering transparency and collaboration between the government and its citizens.
  7. Promotion of Transformative Public Service Practices: Encouraging reforms that enhance public service delivery.
  8. Leveraging Digital Technologies: Utilizing technology to improve learning experiences and service delivery.

The launch event concluded with a strong commitment from KSG leadership to efficiently execute the Strategic Plan, ensuring its objectives are met over the next five years. This proactive approach aims to position KSG as a leader in public sector capacity building, driving innovation, and excellence in governance and administration.

The new Strategic Plan not only aims to elevate the standards of public service training but also seeks to address the evolving needs of the public sector in Kenya and the broader African region.
