NEMA has issued a stern warning to all slaughterhouse owners to install functional wastewater treatment plants and apply for an Effluent Discharge Licence (EDL). The authority emphasized that failure to comply with these regulations could result in severe consequences, including closure of the facilities, prosecution, and potential imprisonment for a term of no less than one year, a fine of no less than KSh 2 million, or both.

This move underscores NEMA’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and protecting the environment from pollution. The authority continues to appeal to businesses to adhere to environmental regulations to ensure sustainable development and environmental conservation.

The arrests serve as a reminder to all industries to maintain environmental compliance and adopt practices that safeguard the environment. NEMA’s proactive measures aim to prevent further environmental degradation and promote the health and well-being of communities affected by such violations.
