The Law Society of Kenya (LSK), under the resolute leadership of President Faith Odhiambo, is intensifying its call for justice following the discovery of four more bodies in Mukuru kwa Njenga, bringing the total to 14. President Odhiambo has vowed that the LSK will persist until the perpetrators are held accountable. “We will not rest until justice is served,” she declared.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), supported by a specialized homicide team and the Recce squad, is spearheading the investigation. Large crowds of residents have gathered around the dumpsite, seeking answers to the horror that has struck their neighborhood. The Kenya Red Cross has deployed a single boat to assist in the retrieval mission, though the exact number of bodies still buried remains unknown.

DCI boss Mohamed Amin revealed that preliminary investigations suggest a systematic method of killing. “The bodies have been transferred to the City Mortuary, where they await post-mortem examinations to confirm our suspicions and positively identify the victims,” Amin stated. The uniform manner in which the bodies were wrapped and disposed of indicates that these acts may be the work of the same perpetrators.

In the same breath, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has expressed sorrow and outrage following the discovery of mutilated bodies at Kware near Mukuru kwa Njenga slums. In a statement on her X account on Saturday, July 13, 2024, Passaris called for the perpetrators of the heinous acts to be held accountable and face the full force of the law. “Can’t imagine these are human bodies… We thought this trend ended. It is creeping back fast and furious! Perpetrators must be found and punished to the fullest extent of the law,” Passaris stated.

The bodies were discovered on Friday, July 12, 2024, at a dump site near the Mukuru kwa Njenga slums in Kware. The retrieval efforts at the Kware pit have been painstakingly slow, according to human rights groups.

As the investigation continues, the LSK, along with other stakeholders, is calling for increased efforts to bring those responsible to justice. The Law Society of Kenya remains steadfast in its mission to ensure that the rule of law prevails and that the victims of these heinous crimes receive the justice they deserve.
