The Aga Khan University (AKU) has achieved a remarkable ranking in the Times Higher Education (THE) 2024 Impact Rankings, placing in the top 5% of higher education institutions globally for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: ‘Good Health and Well-Being.’ AKU is ranked 55th out of 1,498 institutions worldwide.

The University’s recognition is attributed to its significant contributions to research, education, and health services. AKU integrates Sustainable Development Goals into its curriculum through optional modules and dedicated courses at the Institute for Global Health and Development, Institute for Educational Development, and the School of Nursing and Midwifery. The University also supports national policies and curriculum development related to SDGs.

In addition to SDG 3, AKU’s research contributions extend to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Dr. Salim Virani, AKU Vice Provost, Research, noted, “The global relevance of AKU scholarship is demonstrated by the fact that nearly 80 percent of faculty publications in 2022 were aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

AKU’s consistent ranking in SDG 3 highlights its ongoing commitment to excellence in healthcare and global development. The University’s dedication to producing future leaders equipped to address complex challenges continues to be recognized both locally and internationally.
