Commissioner General of Prisons and PS State Department for Correctional Services Tour Kerugoya and Mwea GK Prisons

The Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. Patrick Aranduh, MBS, today joined the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Correctional Services, Dr. Salome Beacco, CBS, on a working tour of Kerugoya and Mwea GK Prisons.

The high-level delegation was warmly received by the Regional Commissioner for Central, the Officer in Charge of Kerugoya Main Prison, and the Officer in Charge of Mwea GK Prison.

During her address to both staff and inmates, Dr. Beacco emphasized the critical values of integrity, professionalism, and excellence within the correctional services. She encouraged the inmates to take full advantage of the legal aid services provided by partners, which are designed to improve self-representation in court proceedings.

The Commissioner General, Mr. Aranduh, reminded the prison staff of the importance of adhering to the proper channels when airing complaints and grievances. He also announced that a salary increment for the staff would be implemented in the August salaries, a move that was met with appreciation. Additionally, Mr. Aranduh stressed the importance of collaboration with other security agencies, underscoring the need for unity and cooperation when called upon.

The tour was attended by several senior officers, including ACGP Peter Njoroge, MBS, Director of Prison Enterprises; Mr. Patrick Kariri, OGW, Director of Farms; and ACGP Dan Obiero, Director of Planning and Development, among others.

The visit reinforced the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards within the correctional facilities and ensuring that both staff and inmates are supported in their roles and rehabilitation efforts.
