Eng. Silas Kinoti, the Director General of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), emphasized the pivotal role that the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) plays in supporting KURA’s mandate to enhance urban mobility and contribute to the engineering sector in Kenya. His remarks were made as part of the lead-up to the 31st IEK International Convention, set to take place from October 29th to November 1st at the Pride Inn Paradise Resort in Mombasa.
“The IEK Council is a crucial pillar in mainstreaming KURAβs mission of shaping urban mobility, and it significantly contributes to the engineering community in Kenya,” Eng. Kinoti stated. He expressed gratitude to IEK President Shammah Kiteme and the council’s vibrant team for their unwavering support as KURA continues to prioritize inclusive infrastructure in Kenya’s rapidly urbanizing environment.
Eng. Kinoti also highlighted the fundamental function of IEK in advising the government on professional engineering matters, particularly as Kenya seeks to enhance its Engineering Indexβa key indicator of national development. He stressed the importance of collaboration between KURA and IEK, noting that such partnerships are vital for advancing the engineering profession and shaping the countryβs infrastructure, which in turn bolsters economic transformation.
As the country prepares for the upcoming IEK International Convention, Eng. Kinoti reaffirmed KURA’s commitment to strengthening ties with relevant institutions, ensuring that Kenyaβs infrastructure development keeps pace with its urban growth and contributes positively to the nation’s overall economic goals
