Strengthening regional collaborations in the mining sector requires extensive stakeholder engagement to build cross-border synergies and promote socio-economic development.
In this regard, Principal Secretary for Mining Elijah Mwangi hosted H.E. Ambassador Joăo Samuel Caholo, Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), during a courtesy call for consultations.
The discussions focused on regional support to bolster the growth of Kenya’s mining sector, with a key highlight being Kenya’s plan to host the inaugural Great Lakes Region Mining and Investment Conference. This prestigious event will enhance Kenya’s profile as an emerging mining powerhouse and provide a platform to showcase the Great Lakes region’s mining potential to the international community.
PS Mwangi emphasized Kenya’s appreciation for ICGLR’s role in promoting mineral beneficiation through value addition and advocating for a regional mineral certification system to curb cross-border smuggling.
Senior officials from the State Department for Mining and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs also attended the meeting, underscoring the significance of Kenya’s partnership with the ICGLR in transforming the mining sector.
