Samburu, Kenya, September 2024 — The National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) continues to be a pivotal force in transforming Kenya’s education sector, with Samburu West Constituency standing as a prime example of its impact. Recent developments in the region underscore the fund’s crucial role in ensuring that education remains accessible, even in the face of natural disasters.
A few months ago, Samburu West was hit by severe floods and heavy winds that caused widespread destruction, particularly to local schools. One of the worst-affected institutions was Lgos Primary School, where strong winds tore off the roof, rendering the school unsafe for students and staff. However, thanks to emergency funds from the NG-CDF, the school was swiftly repaired. The renovations were completed just in time for the school’s reopening, with new desks also being delivered to enhance the learning environment.
Other schools in the constituency also benefited from NG-CDF’s timely intervention. Lokuto Primary School, which had also suffered damage, received much-needed repairs. Additionally, the latrines at Kisima Girls and Loosuk Primary Schools, which had sunk during the floods, are now nearing completion, ensuring that students have access to safe and hygienic facilities.
Moreover, the Lodokejek Primary Borehole project has seen significant progress, bringing the promise of clean and reliable water closer to reality for the school’s students and staff. The Lkishaki Primary Water Extension project is also set to commence soon, further demonstrating the fund’s comprehensive approach to addressing the needs of the constituency.
Speaking on the impact of the NG-CDF, Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda expressed her pride in her team’s rapid response to the recent emergencies. “We are committed to ensuring that the resources entrusted to us are used responsibly and promptly to address the needs of our community,” she said. “The swift repairs and ongoing projects are a testament to our dedication to the people of Samburu West.”
The NG-CDF has proven to be an indispensable tool in Kenya’s efforts to improve education and infrastructure, particularly in regions vulnerable to natural disasters. In Samburu West, it has not only facilitated the swift recovery of damaged schools but also ensured that students can continue their education in safe and supportive environments.
As the country continues to face challenges brought on by climate change and other factors, the NG-CDF remains a vital resource in building resilient communities. The work being done in Samburu West serves as a powerful reminder of the fund’s potential to drive positive change, one school at a time.
