Teso South, Kenya – The development of Asiriam Sports Academy in Teso South Constituency is set to begin as part of a broader national initiative to establish 30 sports academies across Kenya. This project, spearheaded by the Ministry of Sports, aims to enhance Kenya’s performance on the global stage by nurturing young talent in various sports disciplines.

Hon. Mary Emaase, the Member of Parliament for Teso South, recently provided an update on the progress of the academy’s construction. She confirmed that the acquisition of an 8-acre piece of land, where the academy will be built, has been successfully completed. Hon. Emaase expressed her gratitude to the local community for their generosity in providing the land, highlighting the importance of community involvement in national development projects.

“I am deeply grateful to the community for offering this land for such a significant institution,” Hon. Emaase stated. “As we work towards building our nation, I am committed to ensuring that Teso South is not left behind. My promise is that as long as I am your representative, nothing will bypass Teso South.”

The Asiriam Sports Academy is one of the 30 academies slated for construction, with each facility estimated to cost KSh 50 million. The Ministry of Sports has allocated KSh 1.5 billion for the initial phase of these projects, with KSh 500 million already set aside for the first quarter of construction. The tendering and procurement processes are currently underway, with work expected to commence as soon as these are completed.

According to the Ministry of Sports, the Kenya Academy of Sports has conducted a feasibility study for the proposed construction sites, including Asiriam Sports Academy. The academies will feature a football pitch, an athletics running track, an administration block, and changing rooms. Additionally, the Ministry is considering incorporating performing arts facilities as the construction progresses, to ensure a holistic development environment for the youth.

Hon. Emaase emphasized the importance of these academies in improving Kenya’s international sports performance. “These academies are crucial for developing our young talent and enhancing our country’s standing on the world stage,” she noted.

As Teso South prepares to host the Asiriam Sports Academy, the community and local leaders are optimistic that this project will bring significant benefits to the region, providing young athletes with the infrastructure and opportunities they need to succeed in sports and beyond.
