The State Department of Housing, in partnership with President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, has officially launched the Climate WorX Initiative. The program, announced today by Principal Secretary Charles Hinga in Korogocho, Nairobi County, aims to employ over 200,000 individuals across the country in efforts to regenerate and conserve critical ecosystems.
The Climate WorX Initiative will focus on environmental restoration, with a special emphasis on cleaning up and rehabilitating the 45-kilometer Nairobi River Basin. More than 20,000 youth will be directly involved in this vital work, ensuring that the river, which has suffered from years of pollution, is revitalized for the benefit of surrounding communities and future generations.
“Climate change is an existential threat to humanity, and we must confront it decisively,” said PS Hinga. “Through Climate WorX, we are taking significant steps to ensure a sustainable future for all. Environmental polluters must be held accountable, and this initiative marks a critical step in that direction.”
The initiative not only addresses the pressing environmental issues caused by climate change but also provides a significant employment opportunity for thousands of Kenyans, contributing to economic growth and community development.
With the President’s support and participation from local communities, Climate WorX is expected to become a model for large-scale environmental restoration projects across the country, fostering sustainability and accountability.
