Nairobi, Kenya, 13th September 2024 — Kenya Airways (KQ) has reached a new milestone by operating its first flight staffed entirely by crew certified under the prestigious European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards. Flight KQ554, from Nairobi to Kinshasa, marked the airline’s official debut with EASA-certified personnel, positioning it among a select group of African carriers that have attained this significant accreditation.

The accomplishment is the result of rigorous training, with 71 Kenya Airways crew members earning their EASA Attestation Certificates, which confirms their competence in safety and service operations on European-registered aircraft. This certification is a key component of Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance (ACMI) operations and reflects the airline’s growing adherence to international aviation standards.

The EASA certification empowers KQ personnel to ensure safety and efficiency on European-registered aircraft, thereby elevating Kenya Airways’ global standing. Pauline Kihara, Head of In-Flight Services and Catering, emphasized the significance of the milestone: “This achievement not only enhances the capabilities of our cabin crew but also strengthens the confidence of our passengers in the safety and quality of our services.”

By securing EASA certification, Kenya Airways reaffirms its commitment to operational excellence and passenger safety, while further positioning itself as a leading and innovative player in the global aviation industry. This step highlights KQ’s ongoing efforts to align its operations with the highest international standards, enhancing its competitiveness and service offerings for global travelers.
