The broad-based government formed by President William Ruto has helped cool the political temperatures in the country. This doesn’t mean the fundamental problems that have underlined the fabric of our struggling economy have gone.

Key events happened in our beloved country; stretching from the troubles in our education sector to Finance Bill 2024 protests, all with genuine concerns despite the political infiltration that undermined the who purpose of the timely protests.

The most important and critical question now is the state of our governance system, given we have a broad-based government that includes members of the Orange Democratic Movement( ODM) which is the biggest affiliate party within the Azimio coalition.

The political feeling slowly building out there is that ODM is fully in government and should abandon it’s hard stance on some of the government policies, regardless of how brutal they could be.This should not be the case because our constitution is very clear on the independent roles of the three arms of government.

The 2010 constitution does not speak about opposition but underscores the principal of total inclusion where every citizen is part of government with parliament having a majority and minority side.Basically this means we h majority and minority sides of government, all mandated to oversight, represent and legislate. The constitution does not contemplate a citizen opposition but gives all sovereign power to citizens and this could be exercised directly or indirectly through their representatives.

Today, the country is faced with critical issues of national concern that will need parliament to stand tall and independently so,to safeguard the interests of Kenyans. We have the JKIA take over confusion – with the government planning a PPP deal with Adani Holdings.Everything about our airport is at stake here and serious deliberations in parliament are needed. If you ask me,this process needs a vigorous public participation exercise given their is talk that Kenyans will have to pay Adani for 30 years. While there could be some positives about the deal, the devil always lies in the hiden lines playing under the carpet.Parliament must remain steadfast to unmask and everything to the finer details.
