The National Land Commission (NLC) officially commenced a three-day strategic retreat at Burch’s Resort in Naivasha to formulate its Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) budget for the fiscal years 2025/2026 to 2027/2028. The retreat, which began yesterday, brought together key stakeholders from within the NLC Secretariat to develop a financial strategy aligned with national priorities.
The retreat serves as a crucial platform for collaboration, focusing on addressing pressing land-related issues such as equitable access, management, and sustainability. The NLC aims to create a budget framework that is both comprehensive and responsive to the nation’s land management challenges.
NLC CEO Kabale Tache Arero, speaking at the event, stressed the need for the commission’s budget to reflect national priorities while also tackling the unique challenges within the land sector. “Our goal is to ensure that our budget aligns with national priorities and effectively addresses the pressing land issues facing our country,” she stated.
The MTEF budget process is vital for ensuring that the NLC’s programs are adequately funded and positioned to meet long-term goals. The retreat is expected to produce a sustainable financial plan that will support the commission’s initiatives in the coming years.
As the NLC embarks on this strategic planning process, there is optimism that the insights generated during the retreat will contribute to a budget that meets operational needs and advances the commission’s mission of promoting equitable land management across the country.
