At the Nairobi International Trade Fair, also known as the ASK Show, Mr. Henry Rithaa, CEO of the Micro and Small Enterprise Authority (MSEA), actively engaged with Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) at the MSEA pavilion. This event highlights the vital role that MSEs play in Kenya’s economic landscape.

Established under the Micro and Small Enterprise Act No. 55 of 2012, the MSEA was formed after extensive stakeholder consultations. It now operates under the Ministry of Co-operatives and MSME Development. The Act empowers the Authority to formulate and coordinate policies that harmonize public and private sector initiatives aimed at promoting, developing, and regulating MSEs as essential industries for the future.

MSEs occupy a strategic position in Kenya’s development, spanning various sectors and significantly contributing to employment creation and income generation. They are crucial vehicles for poverty reduction and wealth creation in the country. Despite their importance, the full potential of the MSE sector has yet to be realized due to overlapping initiatives from multiple organizations, leading to confusion and inefficiencies.

The MSE Act empowers the MSEA to streamline efforts and eliminate duplication, ensuring that MSEs receive the targeted support they need to thrive. The Authority’s presence at the ASK Show underscores its commitment to fostering a vibrant MSE sector, ultimately enhancing Kenya’s economic growth.
