Nairobi, 25th September 2024 — The Nubian Rights Forum (NRF) has called for immediate action to address ongoing ethnic discrimination at Isinya Boys High School in Kajiado County. According to the organization, an investigation in July revealed instances of unfair treatment targeting non-Maasai students and staff, prompting concerns about the school’s commitment to inclusivity.

NRF reported that students and staff have been subjected to discriminatory practices based on ethnicity, a violation of Kenya’s Constitution, which guarantees every child’s right to a safe and inclusive education. Despite raising the issue with the Ministry of Education’s Principal Secretary, Prof. Belio Kipsang, NRF says critical concerns remain unresolved, allowing discrimination to persist.

The organization has also engaged with the Cabinet Secretary for Education and the Teachers Service Commission, calling on them to take swift action. “We believe that every child, regardless of ethnicity, deserves equal treatment in schools,” NRF stated, emphasizing the need for an inclusive learning environment.

NRF has urged the school’s Board of Management to implement several reforms, including:

  1. Awareness programs promoting inclusivity and mutual respect for both students and staff.
  2. Fair and transparent leadership opportunities for all students.
  3. A language policy that respects Kiswahili and English as official languages while encouraging linguistic diversity.

NRF reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for marginalized communities and urged swift action to ensure Isinya Boys High School becomes a place where all students can thrive equally.
