Claims that one of the 2NK shuttle drivers was sacked for allegedly driving unruly students to a police station have taken a new twist.
This is after the 2NK Sacco management under which the matatu is licensed, stated that John Muthoni was facing a disciplinary case prior to his reported dismissal.
In a statement on Saturday, November 20, the Sacco claimed Muthoni had refused to hand over the day’s collection to the owner prompting him to be summoned for disciplinary action. When he appeared before the board, Muthoni agreed to clear with his employer after which he would resume his normal duties.
When he appeared before the board, Muthoni agreed to clear with his employer after which he would resume his normal duties.
“When confronted about the issue for rectification, he argued with the stage controller, promoting his summon to the board for clarification, where he appeared and he infact committed to go clear with his employer, after which he would resume his duties,” the management said.
Maintaining that it is law-abiding, the company said it followed due process and existing policies in handling the disciplinary matter.
“The Sacco had therefore not fired John and the case in point has nothing to do with his not being at work. We affirm our commitment to fair employment practices, taking care of both the employee as well as the employer,” it clarified
Following reports that Muthoni was dismissed from his job, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti noted with grave concern the unfolding development.
At the same time, the agency requested the driver to visit its headquarters along Kiambu road on Monday, November 29.
“Muthoni is requested to contact the Director urgently through DCI’s toll free hotline 0800 722 203 or present himself at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road, on November 29,” the DCI posted.
