Youth Leader Joseph Ochung’ Calls on Youth To Speak Up on Mental Health Issues.

A Youth leader in Nairobi County is now calling on Kenyans and especially youths with Mental health issues to speak up and seek help without fear of stigmatization.

Kenya County Government Workers Union Nairobi Branch ,Youth Leader Joseph Ochung said there is need to create more awareness on Mental health issues so as to have more youth speak out their issues.

“We recognize that everyone is facing additional challenges dealing with covid 19,youth have no jobs,they have no money ,hence resulting to depression, “He said.

Mr Ochung further said that people need to accept that Mental health is a disease like other diseases, adding that more lives will be saved if more people share what they are going through so as to get help.

“Young people we often underestimate the need for outside help and attempt to deal with their problems on their own,so my plea to Government is youth should be empowered through provision of information on Mental health problems and opportunities for support and treatment, “He added.

Ochung has also urged the County Government and National government to generate realistic and impactful solutions to the diverse socio-economic challenges facing the youth.

“Some of key challenges youth go through include unemployment, alcohol and drug abuse,anger,depression, financial stress,love and gender based violence, among others,”he stated.

Joseph Ochung is a youth who represents youth in the Kenya County Government Workers Union Nairobi Branch ,and also supply chain supervisor at Nairobi Water company..
