Nairobi City County Assembly Majority Chief Whip Moses Ogeto has slammed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for overstepping on their mandate in the stalled City Hall investigations.

According to Ogeto, the DCI was performing Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s (EACC) functions by prematurely conducting investigations of economic crimes in City Hall.

The Whip said Sakaja has been in office for only one year and the payments that he has made are for employees of the County, allowances and various projects.

Article 79 of the constitution stipulates the duties and roles of EACC we feel that they must again redefine their roles. They must give EACC time and space to do their job. This is a mere blackmail from the DCI because Sakaja has been in office only a year. The payments he has done are for employees, contractors for various projects and allowances,” he said.

He called on the DCI to respect other instituitions.

“The DCI should respect other institutions because no crime has been committed at City Hall and there is, they should invoke the powers they have by inviting the EACC to conduct investigations,” he added.
