Matungu Member of Parliament Peter Nabulindo is battling a painful taste of his own medicine with the ground political rapidly electrifying against his wishes as the electorate feels betrayed by one of their own.
Nabulindo who rose to power through a by-election in 2021 was perceived to be a saviour to the perennial problems that have bedeviled the once famous constituency is now fighting nightmares of broken promises and a powerful political force aligning itself behind politician Bernard Wakoli who came second in the 2021 by-election.
This played out at a funeral service yesterday when the MP tried to block Bernard Wakoli Eshiachi from addressing the mourners before hell broke loose leading to the mourners to walk out with Wakoli as the funeral was thrown into dissaray.
Hon Wakoli Eshiachi is seen as a strong candidate against Nabulindo in the coming 2027 general elections,he has been felt across Matungu constituency.
Nabulindo is a former teacher who hails from the Namamali area and rose to the seat after selling himself as a pro-people leader who grew up the up and downs of Matungu’s difficult economic hurdles.
He promised to remodel the education infrastructure,fast track upgrading of roads,revamp sports,help women and youth groups as well as joining other leaders in fighting for the plight of sugarcane farming.
However,all these promises seem to have been put under the bedcovers as residents cry over a flawed bursary allocation system, shoddy works in the ongoing school projects ( some stalled),lack of CDF sponsored sports programs,poor roads, corruption and illegalities in the procurement department within the NG-CDF and his increasing absence on the ground.
Some residents claim he has left too much work for the MCAs who have to carry unnecessary burden due to the failures of the NG-CDF.
He was elected on the ODM ticket after ditching ANC but as things stand,the once powerful Nabulindo is said to have fallen out of favour with both parties at the constituency and county level.
It is only 2024 and by the time we are getting to 2027,his fate may as well have been sealed.
