Kakamega MCAs Hold Consultative Meeting with National Assembly Speaker Wetang’ula


June 6, 2024, Kakamega, Kenya – Over 60 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from Kakamega County convened for a consultative meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Hon. Moses Masika Wetang’ula, E.G.H., MP. The meeting focused on pivotal regional matters aimed at unifying the community and addressing specific county assembly issues.
Key topics discussed included the constitutionalization of the Ward Fund, securing pension benefits for county assembly members, enhancing the independence of the county assembly, and the gazettement of the Kakamega Level Six Referral Hospital. The discussions were part of a broader initiative to strengthen governance and development within the county.

Speaker Wetang’ula emphasized the importance of these issues in promoting regional stability and fostering effective governance. “Unity and structured governance are crucial for the progress of our counties. Addressing these matters will ensure that the needs of our communities are met efficiently,” he stated.
The meeting in Kakamega is the first in a series of planned engagements. Subsequent meetings with MCAs from Busia, Bungoma, Vihiga, and Trans Nzoia counties are scheduled to follow shortly, continuing the dialogue on regional unity and governance reforms.
The initiative reflects a concerted effort to enhance the legislative framework and operational efficiency of county assemblies across the region, ensuring they are better equipped to serve their constituents.
