Dr. Catherine Nyongesa Calls on Kenyans to Protect the Environment on Mazingira Day

October 10, 2024 – Nairobi, Kenya — On this year’s Mazingira Day, renowned oncologist and Managing Director of the Texas Cancer Centre, Dr. Catherine Nyongesa, made a heartfelt plea to all Kenyans to take urgent action in protecting the environment. She emphasized the need to safeguard Kenya’s biodiversity from harmful practices and the growing threat of climate change.
In her address, Dr. Nyongesa encouraged every Kenyan to plant and nurture at least 10 trees, symbolizing the significance of today’s date, October 10. “Planting trees is one of the simplest and most effective ways we can protect our environment,” she noted. “We each have a responsibility to ensure that our children inherit a healthier, more sustainable planet.”
Her call comes at a time when the world is grappling with the harsh realities of climate change, which has become a pressing global issue. Rising temperatures, erratic weather patterns, and devastating flash floods have highlighted the need for urgent action. “Climate change is no longer a distant or hypothetical issue; it is a reality we are living with. The time to act is now,” she stated.
Dr. Nyongesa’s message resonates deeply as Kenya faces the growing impact of climate change. By advocating for tree planting and environmental protection, she hopes to inspire collective action to preserve Kenya’s natural beauty and biodiversity for future generations.
