Murang’a, Kenya – Principal Secretary for Mining Elijah Mwangi has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling landslide risks in Murang’a County. During a visit to Musoso, where 30 families were displaced by landslides last year, PS Mwangi handed over the Geo-Hazard Mapping and Assessment Report, outlining strategies to prevent future disasters.

The report, compiled by government geologists, identifies steep terrain, porous soil, and human activities as key contributors to landslides. PS Mwangi emphasized the need for a collaborative approach, urging leaders and agencies to adopt sustainable land-use practices, improved drainage systems, and early warning mechanisms.

The government will continue monitoring high-risk areas and providing technical support to protect communities. This initiative reinforces efforts to enhance safety and resilience against geo-hazards in Kenya.
