Farmers Party Exits Kenya Kwanza Citing “Political Infidelity”

The Farmers Party has officially announced its departure from the Kenya Kwanza coalition, citing dishonesty, political infidelity, and disregard for the Constitution and their Coalition Agreement.
In a statement released on April 7, 2025, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) declared that the decision to exit was unanimous. The Farmers Party had initially joined Kenya Kwanza on March 23, 2022, with hopes of advancing shared political and economic goals. However, the party now claims that the coalition’s leadership has repeatedly undermined its principles and agreements.
“It is with deep regret that we note a consistent pattern of dishonesty, political infidelity, and outright disregard for both the Constitution of Kenya (2010) and the spirit of our Coalition Agreement by our major coalition partner,” the statement read.
While the party did not provide specific examples of the alleged violations, insiders suggest growing frustration over unfulfilled promises and lack of consultation on key policy decisions. Sources within the party indicate that efforts to address these concerns within the coalition framework proved futile, leading to the final decision to withdraw.
This move adds to rising political tensions within the ruling coalition, as other affiliate parties have also expressed concerns over Kenya Kwanza’s governance approach. Political analysts suggest that the Farmers Party’s exit could signal a shifting political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of now, the Kenya Kwanza leadership has yet to issue an official response. However, the Farmers Party has made it clear that it will pursue an independent political path moving forward.
