Mandera South MP Hon. Abdul Haro Kore has officially welcomed back five local chiefs who were freed after enduring 63 days in captivity. The chiefs—Adawa Abdi Mohammed, Mohamed Hassan Kulmia, Mohamednur Hache, Abdi Hassan Suraw, and Assistant Chief Ibrahim Gabow—had been missing since February 3, 2025.

“Welcome back home, our chiefs,” said Hon. Haro during an emotional reception. “Your abduction deeply impacted your families and shook our entire community. That morning will forever be etched in our memories.”

The MP praised their resilience and thanked the community for staying united during the distressing period. Their disappearance paralyzed administrative operations across Mandera South and raised serious security concerns.

Though details of their captivity remain under investigation, Haro called on the national government to bolster border security and protect frontline public servants in high-risk areas.

“The safety of our officers must be a national priority,” he stressed.

The return of the chiefs marks a significant moment of relief and solidarity for Mandera residents, symbolizing both resilience and the urgent need for sustained security efforts in Kenya’s northeastern region.
