Kenya Mourns Loss of Three Citizens in Sharjah Fire

Nairobi, Kenya – The government has confirmed the deaths of three Kenyan nationals in a devastating fire that broke out in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on Sunday. The fire, which claimed five lives in total, has cast a shadow of grief over Kenya’s diaspora community.

Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the families affected. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. We are working closely with UAE authorities to ensure full support is provided,” said PS Njogu.

She affirmed that the State Department for Diaspora Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs are actively engaged in facilitating consular assistance and repatriation of the victims’ remains. The government has also urged affected families to reach out for immediate support.

The tragedy has reignited calls for stronger safety and welfare measures for Kenyans abroad. PS Njogu emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens in the diaspora, noting that steps are being taken to enhance their protection and well-being.

“This incident reminds us of the risks our people face while working or living abroad. We remain dedicated to supporting them in every way possible,” she said.

As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, the nation stands united in mourning and support. The government has assured the public that justice and dignity for the victims will be upheld.
