The Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA), in partnership with Gichugu MP Hon. Gichimu Githinji, held a successful grassroots sensitization and capacity-building forum at Gichugu TVET College aimed at empowering local youth and entrepreneurs.
Led by MSEA Kirinyaga Regional Head Ms. Elizabeth Gate, the session focused on the Authority’s mandate to support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through capacity building, market linkages, financial access, and provision of worksites. Ms. Gate urged attendees to engage with the MSEA office in Kirinyaga to explore available opportunities.
MSEA Nyeri Regional Head Mr. Bonface Mbugua emphasized the importance of formalizing business groups, explaining how to register through the E-Citizen platform. He encouraged youth to form associations and tap into MSEA’s wide-ranging support.
Mr. Raphael Koome, representing the NYOTA Program, sensitized participants on the national youth empowerment initiative targeting 110,000 youth and Persons with Disabilities. He explained the benefits and application process via USSD code *254#.
Eng. Edward Karani, MSEA Director of Infrastructure Development and Innovation, outlined the Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation Project (KJET), designed to support MSEs with training, co-investment in machinery, and Business Development Services.
The event, attended by county officials and representatives from government development funds, concluded with the distribution of common user machines—sewing and knitting equipment—to registered local associations.
MP Gichimu applauded MSEA for its commitment to grassroots empowerment and urged NYOTA beneficiaries to use their grants wisely. “This is a rare, life-changing opportunity. Use it to build, not waste it,” he told the youth.
The initiative marks a significant step toward transforming livelihoods and boosting entrepreneurship in Gichugu Constituency.
