Kenya, Uganda Forge Stronger Regional Ties Through Diaspora Affairs Exchange

Nairobi, Kenya – In a move to boost regional cooperation, Kenya and Uganda are deepening collaboration on diaspora engagement strategies following a two-day benchmarking visit by a Ugandan delegation to Nairobi.

Hosted by Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, the high-level team from Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs was led by Mohammed Bagonza, Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs. The exchange focused on shared challenges, best practices, and building stronger support systems for citizens living abroad.

“Kenya and Uganda face similar opportunities in diaspora engagement,” said PS Njogu. “This partnership is a step toward a united East African Diaspora Policy.”

Kenya shared insights into its evolving diaspora framework—highlighting achievements in welfare programs, investment facilitation, and entrepreneurship support. Uganda expressed interest in replicating elements of Kenya’s model, praising its proactive, service-oriented approach.

The visit included strategic discussions with heads of departments in Kenya’s State Department for Diaspora Affairs, focusing on policy innovation, service delivery, and cross-border cooperation.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to regional knowledge sharing and building a unified front in engaging and empowering their diaspora communities.
