Kenya Marks International Day of Yoga with a Call for Wellness and Sustainability

Nairobi, June 21, 2025 — Kenya joined the global community in celebrating the 11th International Day of Yoga with a vibrant event held at the Sikh Union Club in Nairobi, led by Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano.
Under the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” the celebration spotlighted yoga’s role in promoting personal well-being and environmental consciousness.
In her keynote address, CS Miano emphasized the symbolic power of the day, which coincides with the summer solstice, traditionally linked to renewal and spiritual awakening.
“Yoga teaches us to live consciously—in how we move, eat, and connect with the Earth,” she said. “It’s a simple, accessible tool for healing and resilience.”
Miano commended India’s leadership in championing the global yoga movement, now recognized by the United Nations, and highlighted its alignment with Kenya’s priorities—universal health care, climate action, and sustainable living.
She also unveiled Kenya’s ambition to position itself as a wellness tourism hub, citing plans to integrate yoga into ecotourism, retreats, and youth programs aimed at mental and emotional wellness.
“We must go beyond the mat,” she said. “When we care for ourselves, we care for the Earth.”
The event underscored yoga’s growing influence in Kenya as a bridge between personal health and sustainable development.
