The battle for the Kajiado gubernatorial seat is getting heated everyday and reports are fast emerging that David Nkedianye of ODM is planning to quit the race.

Nkedianye who is facing an uphill task to get the Azimio La Umoja ticket from the firm grip of incumbent Joseph Ole Lenku is said to be exploring other options.

The revelations come at a time when tension continues to be witnessed in several pro Azimio meetings where potential candidates have unleashed all manner of schemes to appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Nkedianye served as the first governor of the partly cosmopolitan county and already professional groups have warned against recycling of leaders who were voted out.

A close ally from within his campaign secretariat has hinted that the former county boss is fully apprised of the likelihood of governor  Ole Lenku being favored by the powers that be and that he is willing to compromise for other safer options.

“He is open minded and ready for available options but he remains focused on the Azimio La Umoja aspirations for the county and the country at large,” the source said.

Nkedianye has consistently rubbished the leadership style of Lenku but according to Stephen Lenana who is a Rongai based political analyst and management expert,Lenku’s development track record stands out ahead of Nkedianye’s.

“We have to be honest enough to give Caesar what belongs to Caesar and call a spade a spade and not a big spoon.Lenku has managed to handle the land issues well, spread development among all tribes and the progress in the health sector is there to be seen.Between 2013 and 2017 we only read about plans and dreams that were never actualized,” Lenana said.

However, some aspirants are pushing to have those seeking any seat in the county be subjected to nominations under the Azimio la Umoja movement while others feel political parties affiliated to the movement should be allowed to field their own candidates in all positions, except the presidency where they will all support Raila
